My lifelong interest in Daoism, Zen, and Chinese calligraphy began while studying for a Masters in Comparative Religion and a PhD in Chinese philosophy in Hawaii. I then obtained a law degree from Columbia University, and spent most of my professional career as a lawyer, a law professor at UCLA, the director of the China Rule of Law Program at Oxford University and a consultant to the Asian Development Bank and other international agencies on law and development and institution building. Having lived in Asia for most of three decades, I returned with family to San Diego in 2016 where I now happily spend my time pursuing my passions for Zen art work, healthy living and single malt scotch.
